Modern Meets Historic

I am a huge fan of Dwell magazine. Being an interior design student I have developed a great appreciation for architecture. The Novo Nordisk conference center was design by SeARCH. The conference center was to be an extension of a 14th century Danish building.

You can read read about the conference center here.

Color Vision

I'm not a huge fan of skulls but I really like this iPhone case. I happened to be on Pinterest when I came across the picture. The case came from Society6. It is a place for independent artist to have their work sold. The artist is John Filipe. Many of his pieces exhibit bright, fluorescent, vivid colors. Some of his piece remind me of another artist that I had posted about here.

Saturday Art

I am not a stranger to the art world. I enjoy experiencing and discovering new works of art. I happened to read a tweet by Free People that read "Saturday Art" with a link attached. When I clicked on the link I feel in love with the pieces I saw.The color grabbed my attention and would let go. The black added just the right amount of drama to make them amazing. The pieces were designed by Lital Gold.

Lital Gold is a textile designer and illustrator from Israel. She sent an email to Free People asking for them to check out her work. When they clicked on the link they developed the same love for her work as I did. They featured her in their blog.

Lital Gold

Free People interviewed her. She seems like such a dynamic individual by the responses she gave. She was asked "what do you think is unique about your style of art?" She responds, "textile is unique. It has an inner bit, it's repetitive and traditional, a never-ending story. I love it and try to preserve it in my works by giving it a new aesthetic and interpretation. I bring myself and my own language and touch. All of my works are handmade, and each work tells a different story. That is what makes them communicative."

Her works of art definitely communicated something to me. I hope you enjoyed her works as much as I did.

Neon Magic

Are you in dire need of some color inspiration? Take a look a Francoise Nielly's fabulous paintings. Dramatic, expressive, brilliant are a few words that describe her artwork. Fluorescent pigments give the artwork its edge. Dramatic, bold paint strokes invoke a fascinating energy the I love. When I cam across her paintings, I fell in love. Her paintings would be perfect in a contemporary loft. She captures the beauty and emotion expressed through a human beings face. Nielly only works with oil paint because it allows her to completely express herself. What I think is amazing is that Nielly creates these fabulous painting from a black and white photograph.

Welcome,

I am a current student at the Interior Designers Institute and will be graduating April 2012. I am the Communications Chair for  the Retail Design Institute student  chapter netGEN.

Combining elements from different eras has always been intriguing to me, I am drawn to art, fashion, industrial design and urban culture. Developing a design style is a process. I would consider my design style as Metropolitan Urban Glamour. Metropolitan is defined as a characteristic of a metropolis or its inhabitants especially in culture, sophistication, or accepting and combining a wide variety of people and ideas. Exploring different cultures and incorporating it into is the basis of my design style. Architectural elements are an important aspect in the urban and industrial part of the style. Exposed brick and volume ceilings are prominently featured in nonresidential buildings retrofitted into lofts. Infusing some "sparkle" and texture establishes an inviting friendly environment. Mixing different materials and finishes adds sophistication and elegance. Metropolitan Urban Glamour is creating a tranquil urban oasis.

I hope that you enjoy this blog as much as I enjoy posing the thinks that inspire me. Inspiration is everywhere. I hope the things that inspire me will inspire you as well.
